Our “Diamond in the Rough” Donation List
At the Paws Claws and Talons Foundation, we believe that beauty is on the inside—especially when it comes to nutrition. Our “Diamond in the Rough” program targets the ingredients that might not look perfect on a dinner plate but are absolute treasures for our residents. We take these overlooked items, run them through our food processors, and blend them into high-value, species-specific treats that keep our whole animal kingdom thriving.
Nutrient-Dense Additives
These items are the “secret ingredients” that provide essential minerals and vitamins to our handmade treats.
- Eggshells: Once dried and ground into a fine powder, these provide a massive calcium boost for our birds and reptiles.
- “Ugly” Veggie Scraps: We want your kale stems, broccoli stalks, carrot tops, and squash peels. As long as they are mold-free, these fiber-rich bits are perfect for blending into our signature floral forage cookies.
Fruit Bases and Sweeteners
Natural sugars and antioxidants are vital for energy and health. We use the parts of the fruit you usually trim away to add flavor and nutrition to our recipes.
- Fruit Extras: We collect apple cores (please ensure the seeds are removed!), strawberry tops, and melon rinds. These are processed into fruit mashes that make our treats irresistible to even the pickiest eaters.
High-Value Proteins
Protein is the engine of growth and repair. We give a second life to quality meats that have stayed in the freezer a little too long for human preference.
- Freezer-Burnt Meat: We accept chicken, beef, salmon, pork, and more. Even if it has a bit of freezer burn, it remains a safe and incredible protein source for our carnivores and omnivores once it’s processed and integrated into our nutrient-dense Morsel Menagerie snacks.
By donating from this list, you are helping us turn kitchen “cast-offs” into gourmet health food. Your contributions ensure that every resident—from the smallest mouse to the largest bird—receives a diet that is as diverse and vibrant as they are.
