Unlike her brothers who moved out to a bachelor pad at six weeks old, Vanilla has lived in perfect harmony with her sister Camelia and their mother, Taco, since the day she was born. This lifelong bond allows them to practice natural group behaviors, making Vanilla a total lovebug who thrives on closeness.
When it comes to human interaction, Vanilla has some of the most charmingly specific habits that tie directly back to her wild instincts. She loves riding around on your shoulder, but she doesn’t stop there. She will literally crawl right inside your collar to ride around directly against your skin, finding the ultimate warm, cozy hiding spot inside your shirt. In the wild deserts of Mongolia, Roborovskis survive extreme temperature swings by digging deep, complex burrow systems to stay warm. To Vanilla, your shirt is the ultimate, cozy human burrow.
If you gently tickle her sides while she is hanging out, she wiggles and squirms as if she is incredibly ticklish. This area is actually where dwarf hamsters have unique mid-ventral scent glands, which they use to mark territory and identify family members.
