Grub Grid Volunteer Crafting Guide

The Grub Grid: A Foraging Mission

The Goal: Keeping our pets’ noses busy and their brains happy.

The Team: Handcrafted by the Mojo Movement.

The Design: A sturdy 3D-printed frame with hand-knotted fabric “leaves.”

The Grub Grid is a simple but brilliant tool we use to wake up a pet’s natural detective skills. By hiding treats inside a 3D-printed honeycomb covered in fabric, we create a fun challenge that rewards them for using their nose and paws. It’s built with nothing but tension—no glue, no hardware, and no fuss—so you can pull it apart and toss the fabric in the wash whenever it gets a little scruffy.

How to Build a Grid (Mojo Movement Instructions)

1. Printing the Base

The Mojo Movement team starts by 3D printing a flat, honeycomb-style grid. We use a tough material that can handle some serious play sessions at home.

2. Prepping the “Leaves”

We take scrap fabric and cut it into strips (about 1 inch wide and 6 inches long). You can also use knitted yarn chains if you’re feeling fancy. The goal is to make enough “grass” to totally hide the treats.

3. The Weaving Part

Thread a strip of fabric down through one hole and back up through the one next to it. Tie a firm knot on the top. Repeat this until every single hole in the frame is filled with a tuft of fabric.

4. The “No-Peeking” Check

Ruffle the fabric around. If you can still see the plastic frame, add more knots! A thicker, fluffier grid makes the game more fun and keeps the pet guessing longer.

5. The Shake Test

Give the whole thing a good shake to make sure no knots come loose. If it feels heavy, plush, and sturdy, it’s ready for some Morsel Menagerie treats and a very happy pet.

A Friendly Reminder: Please keep an eye on your pets while they play. No toy lasts forever! Check the grid regularly and fix any loose knots to keep things safe and fun.
